Competitive Program

It is our goal, as a competitive team, to compete at the highest level and meet the objectives that we set within our team. It is important to keep competition experience positive, and most importantly, be proud of the growth and development that takes place within our dancers. Team members are not in competition with each other. Students are encouraged to strive to improve themselves and to work to their full potential, with the utmost commitment to their team. Each dancer is uniquely different, with their own strengths and their own weaknesses. Each brings their own talent to the team as a whole. It is our goal that every dancer reaches their highest potential, be given incredible opportunities to learn and explore, all while being accountable to themselves and their teammates.

The YMM Competitive Dance Team is a group of our most elite dancers who travel to competitions to compete against other studios like ours within friendly competition. This is for our more serious dancers and their families who want the biggest challenges and highest level of commitment to enhance their dancing experience. Competitive dance opens new doors to outside opportunities, it teaches how to accomplish lofty goals as part of a team, and it is the best way to explore the possibilities of making dance a career path for your child. Overall, it is a great way for your child to explore new challenges and to grow as a dancer.

Your dancer has multiple ways that they can compete at competition. They are as part of a group (small group, large group, line, production), as a soloist, in a duet, and a part of a trio. Your dancer may also compete within the styles of their choice (i.e. Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, etc.). Your dancer may compete in as many styles and numbers of your choosing; which have been approved by the studio director. The primary way to compete is within the group numbers. These group numbers are divided into levels: Itty Bitty, Mini, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. These are not age ranges and do not mean that your dancers will be a part of that group; they are competitive experience levels. Which groups and individual numbers are determined after participating in Placement Day.
